‘Youth and Gender Connect’ Project of the Archipelago Programme

Mr Halidou Bello, Secretary General of the CCIMC, personal representative of Honourable Christophe Eken, President of the Consular Chamber, chaired on Thursday 14 October 2021, the ceremony of handing over certificates to young people of the "Youth and Gender Connect" project under the Archipelago programme. The 20 young people were trained for four months in agri-food processing (fruits and vegetables, smoking techniques, tuber processing). The ceremony took place in the conference room of the CCIMC head office building in the presence of the Bureau Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the firm Bekolo and Partner, partners of the project.

The Archipelago programme is a two-year training programme aimed at providing quality technical skills to young Cameroonians in the fields of food processing, car repair and entrepreneurship.

Under the auspices of the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Crafts (CCIMC), the programme aims to create incubators for future wealth creators and will enable young people and women to access new responsibilities and jobs. More than two hundred and fifty young people are currently being trained in the Centre, Littoral, West and Adamaoua regions under this project.

The Archipelago youth training project is in fact an initiative of the European Union, with the support of the Permanent Conference of African and French-speaking Consular Chambers (CPCCAF) and the CMA of Pays de La Loire, intended to provide professional training to young Africans from Sahel countries to enable them to access the labour market in local companies or to become self-employed so as to earn a better living in their own country rather than to embark on illusory and adventurous journeys to Europe at the peril of their lives.
